Antique Traditional Chinese Acupuncture Teaching Model, c. Early to Mid 20th Century

$2,650.00

Description:

A finely detailed Traditional Chinese acupuncture model, likely mid-20th century, hand-painted with Traditional Chinese characters denoting major acupoints and meridian pathways across the face, torso, and limbs. Constructed of plaster or composition material with naturalistic anatomical features and a serene expression, the figure bears hundreds of calligraphic inscriptions identifying various meridians.

The model is punctuated with small pinholes corresponding to acupuncture sites, suggesting practical use in medical education or demonstration. The script is executed in Traditional Chinese, indicative of pre-1949 design or post-1949 production in Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Japan. The painted surface exhibits aged wear and patina consistent with decades of use or display.

Such figures were widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) institutions as visual aids for acupuncture training and anatomical reference.

Dimensions:
Approximately 34 in. x 8 in. x 6 in.

Provenance:
Acquired from a private collection in the United States; reportedly from a TCM practitioner’s estate.

Condition Report:
Surface wear, minor abrasions, and paint loss to nose and chest area; age-appropriate soiling; structurally stable. Not examined beneath paint or surface layer.
